Local Guitarists and accompaning musicians will gather for their weekly take over of Gilchrist Park in downtown Punta Gorda this Thursday evening. Typically there are several different groups of musicians who have gained a feel with playing with each other and play several hour sets together. The event will begin at 6:00 pm and runs for about 2 to 3 hours depending on the will of the players and the crowd that is out to enjoy their talents.

The Charlotte Harbour Challenge fishing tournament has become an annual staple in the fishing community of southwest florida for 20+ years now. The event is taking place on Saturday, July 9th in downtown Punta gorda at Laishley Park with a captains meeting scheduled for Friday at 6:00 AM. The tournament will be open to the public with registration being done via internet or on site at the boat captains meeting. The tourney is set with a first thru 3rd place finish in the catagories of Trout and Redfish seperately as well as a combined wieght division as well providing lots of opportunity for all of the 30 teams (still growing in number). The wiegh-ins will take place saturday at 3pm in the back of Laishley Crab House of the platform stage for the public to view.
